My inspiration for this painting was along the walkway that leads to Ned's Point. I have applied serious artistic licence here in my choice of colour as I wanted to emphasise the softness of the berries against the tangle of rough thorny branches and sharp jagged barbed wire. I'm pleased with the result.

The Castle Bridge

This whole area of Buncrana is steeped in history as is most of the inishowen penninsula.This six arched bridge leads to the O'Doherty's Keep. In 1602 the O'Doherty Keep was upgraded by Hugh Boy O'Doherty as an intended base for Spanish military aid that hoped to land at Inch Island. At the far end of the bridge is Buncrana Castle built in 1718. In 1718 Wolfe Tone was held there when captured and eventually was taken to Dublin.

This famine pot is to be found in the garden of Maginn Cottage, Buncrana. Co.Donegal. During the irish famine this cottage was inhabited by Bishop Maginn and this pot was used to make a kind of soup for the starving of Buncrana parish.This simple pot is very much part of this country's history.

Situated in north Donegal on a rugged outcrop of land thats juts out into the north Atlantic. There is a certain majesty about lighthouses in general as they stand alone against, at times, the worst the elements can throw at them to keep our ships and our seamen safe from harm. I've painted this view and others a number of times and I'm sure I'll paint it again.
